Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters welcomed in the Tri-City ValleyCats for the first time this season to Susquehanna Bank Park looking to snap a three game losing streak. The Cutters would fall for the first time at home this season to the ValleyCats by a score of 10-6.
The Cutters would fall behind early in Denton Keys third start of the season. Keys allowed a single to Johnny Sewald to kick off the game. Sewald would score two batters later after stealing second and third base on a sacrifice fly from Bryan Muniz. The Cutters would answer a three run fourth inning by Tri-City with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Venn Biter and Brendon Hayden highlighted the inning with a pair of RBI hits to cut the ValleyCats lead to 4-3.
William Cuicas delivered the Cutters fourth run of the game in the seventh inning with a double scoring Jose Pujols. Hayden would try to score on the play as well but would be thrown out at the plate to end the inning with the Cutters trailing 6-4. The ValleyCats, however, would have an answer for each of the Cutters rallies on the night scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 10-4 lead. Williamsport wouldn't go down without a fight as they scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly from Biter and a fielder's choice groundout from Cuicas to make it a 10-6 game.
With the loss Williamsport falls to 13-5 on the season and Denton Keys drops his first decision of the season working four innings while surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits. Keys walked three batters on the night while striking out three. The Cutters used four pitchers on the night as it would be a tough night for the bullpen allowing six runs on seven hits while walking nine batters and walking three.
