HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but fell short in a 6-4 loss to the San Angelo Colts in seven innings of Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Harlingen Field.
With two one and one out in the seventh, Francisco Santana hit his sixth home run of the season to knock out Logan Williamson (6-0). Sean Kramer came in to record the final two outs for his fifth save of the season.
The WhiteWings (21-17) got their first run in the bottom of the first inning against Williamson. Santana drew a leadoff walk. Wilmer Pino singled to move Santana to third and David Peralta hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
The WhiteWings didn't get another hit against Williamson until the sixth, when they got three singles to load the bases with one out, but Gerardo Avila struck out and Eric Gonzalez popped out to end the threat.
Williamson struck out seven and walked three in 6.1 innings.
The Colts (23-14) jumped on Luis Chirinos (2-2) in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Landon Camp.
The top of the fourth began with a runner reaching on an error. Then, with two on and two out, Cory Patton hit his ninth home run of the year to make it 5-1.
Danny Hernandez hit an RBI-single in the top of the fifth to make it 6-1.
The WhiteWings and Colts play a game two of this double-in approximately 30 minutes. Right-hander Andy Wells (2-1, 6.82) is expected to pitch for the WhiteWings.
