Caps Bats Provide Fireworks on Fourth of July

Chico, CA - Right fielder Tom Collaro and left fielder Todd Linden each drove in four runs as the Edmonton Capitals exploded for 11 runs in an 11-2 win over the Chico Outlaws during the Fourth of July game on Monday night in Chico.
Linden and Collaro each belted a home run and drove in four runs to lead the Caps to victory, while second baseman Matt Rogelstad also had a massive offensive performance with five hits, four runs scored and another run driven in. The newest Caps position player, centre fielder Jamie McGraw, also contributed with a double, two runs scored and two walks.
The other recent addition to the Edmonton roster, pitcher Andrew Arreola, got the start on Monday and tossed three solid innings, surrendering just one run on three hits. The older brother of teammate Daryl Arreola earned his first victory with the Caps after joining the team in Chico on Sunday.
The visitors also got a strong outing from reliever Chad Blackwell, who came in for the next four innings and also only gave up one run on three hits, while striking out five Outlaws batters. David Davidson and Brandon Villafuerte pitched the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to close out the blowout win.
The Caps (23-14) are now one game behind the Lake County Fielders for first place in the North American League's North Division. They are now two games into a lengthy 12-game road trip that sees them playing July 3-10 in Chico against the Outlaws and July 12-14 in Calgary versus the provincial rival Vipers. The Caps return to TELUS Field to host the Vipers and continue the battle of Alberta July 15-17.
