
Late Homers Give Suns 7-5 Win over Legends

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, Ky.) Justin Miller's eighth inning home run broke a 5-5 tie and the Hagerstown Sun went on to a 7-5 win over the Lexington Legends Saturday night in front of 7,764 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
The Suns opened the scoring with three runs in the first. Cutter Dykstra led off with a double, and advanced to third on a single by Billy Burns, who took second base on the throw to the infield. Jason Martinson followed with a ground out to shortstop, scoring Dykstra and moving Burns to third. After Matt Skole struck out, J.P. Ramirez and Brett Newsome hit back to back RBI doubles.
The Legends tied the game at 3-3 in the third. Brandon Meredith led off with a walk and advanced to third on Roberto Pena's single. Chan Jong Moon followed with another single, driving in Meredith with Lexington's first run. Delino DeShields Jr. singled to left, scoring Pena. After Jordan Scott sacrificed Moon to third and DeShields to second, Zach Johnson's ground out to shortstop scored Moon with the tying run.
Lexington took the lead in the fourth on Mike Kvasnicka's solo home run, and added another in the fifth on Scott's double and Johnson's single.
Hagerstown drew even in the sixth. Cole Leonida and Miller drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning, and Dykstra followed with a single, scoring Leonida and moving Miller to third. Burns then grounded into a double play, bringing home Miller to tie the game at 5-5.
After Miller broke the tie with his homer in the eighth inning, Skole gave the Suns their final run with a solo home run in the ninth.
Chris McKenzie (1-1) threw three scoreless innings of relief and earned the win. Jason Chowning (1-2) picked up the loss, allowing two runs in an inning and two-thirds. The homers by Miller and Skole were the first two earned runs of the season allowed by Chowning, who was making his 12th appearance.
The two teams will wrap up the series Sunday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
