Hagerstown Suns News Release
Lexington, KY - The Hagerstown Suns (18-15) used a Justin Miller home run to take a lead and then a Matt Skole blast to secure it, beating the Lexington Legends (17-18) 7-5 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.
Miller snapped a 5-5 tie in the eighth inning with his second homer of the season to put the Suns on top 6-5. The next inning, Skole hit a towering home run to right field, his team leading 6th of the season, to give the Suns an insurance run. Left fielder J.P. Ramirez extended his hitting streak to 11 games, going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while first baseman Brett Newsome also doubled in a run for Hagerstown.
Suns righty Chris McKenzie (1-1) earned the win with three perfect innings out of the bullpen behind starter Taylor Hill, who allowed five runs on seven hits in a no-decision. Lefty Bobby Lucas (1) walked the lead-off batter of the ninth inning but then struck out the next three in order to secure the save.
Legends starter Luis Ordosgoitti did not factor in the decision, allowing three runs over four innings of work. Reliever Jason Chowning (1-2) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs in 1.2 innings pitched. First baseman Zach Johnson went 1-for-4 with two RBIs for Lexington.
The Suns and Legends will conclude their four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. when RHP Wirkin Estevez (4-1) takes the ball for Hagerstown against Lexington's RHP Mike Foltynewicz (4-1).
