Late Homer Gives Aviators Game One Win

The Las Vegas Aviators broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the 9th inning to take down the Salt Lake Bees 8-6 on Thursday night at Smith's Ballpark.

Las Vegas jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning but the Bees came back to tie things up with two runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth. The Aviators scored a run in the seventh and the Bees once again tied things up in the eighth. In the ninth Pete Kozma walked to lead off the inning and Nate Mondou took an 0-2 pitch over the right field wall to break the tie and provide Las Vegas with the winning runs.

Jack Mayfield, Michael Stefanic, Scott Schebler and Preston Palmeiro each recorded multi-hit games for the Bees. Schebler drove in two to lead the offensive effort. James Hoyt took the loss for the Bees giving up the home run in the ninth inning. The two teams combined for 23 hits and used 13 pitchers on the night.

Game two of the six game series between the Bees and Aviators will be Friday night at Smith's Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
