Late Goal Gives Kingston Win over the Gens
December 30, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
The Generals visited the Frontenacs at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston for their second matchup of the season. After a fast-paced game, the Frontenacs came out on top 2-1, with a late third period goal.
The Generals welcomed back forward Cole Cassels tonight after serving a 10-game suspension. Newly acquired Brent Pedersen made his debut with the team tonight after being traded from the Kingston Rangers in exchange for draft picks. Jeremy Brodeur made his sixth appearance in net for the Generals while Lucas Peressini was between the pipes for Kingston.
During his first shift, Pedersen was sent to the box after getting into it with Zack Dorval of Kingston. Moments later, a hooking penalty to Roland McKeown put the Generals on their first power play, which they took advantage of. Stephen Desrocher picked up his eighth of the season with a rebound goal assisted by Michael Dal Colle and Tobias Lindberg. Things began to get physical when Josh Brown took down Ted Nichol, which upset some Kingston players. Jacob Graves and Brown both sat for offsetting minors. Juho Lammikko had a huge scoring opportunity but was stopped by Brodeur. With things continuing to heat up between the teams, Stephen Desrocher sat for hooking and then it was Samuel Schutt's turn to sit. The first period wrapped up with four-on-four hockey and with shots on net at 14-10 for Oshawa.
Four-on-four continued for the first 24 seconds of the second period. The Generals saw some power play time with Desrocher's penalty expiring but they were unable to capitalize. The second period brought multiple penalties with Brown sitting for high sticking, an interference call to McEneny and a slashing penalty to Cassels. Both Brodeur and Peressini were tested this period with some huge saves from both guys. With only 3:33 remaining in the period, Conor McGlyyn deflected the puck in the net, which was initially under review, and tied the game at 1-1. After being taken down late in the period, Cassels got two minutes for slashing and less than 20 seconds later, Aidan Wallace received a two minute penalty for cross checking. Kingston finished off the period with a five-on-three advantage, while the Generals still had more shots on net with 29-23.
The third period was a very fast-paced one with only one shot for each team halfway through. With only two whistles in 14 minutes, the period flew by with both teams showing lots of speed. It looked like things were headed into overtime but Schutt was fed by McEneny and put the Frontenacs up 2-1 with only 1:19 to go in the game. Even with an extra attacker on and Brodeur to the bench, the Generals were not able to bounce back in the short amount of time. It was a strong effort by the Generals but the Frontenacs took the two points in the end.
