Saginaw Falls to Sault Ste. Marie 7-2

The Saginaw Spirit fell to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on their last game before the New Year at the Essar Centre 7-2.

The first period saw the Saginaw Spirit and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds trade penalties but neither could capitalize off of the man advantage and so they remained scoreless throughout the first. Shots on goal for the first frame were in favor of the Greyhounds 10-7.

Sault Ste. Marie headed into the locker room up 5-2 over Saginaw after forty minutes of play. Two of the five goals for the Greyhounds came from Zachary Senyshyn while the other three came from Kyle Jenkins, Jared McCann, and Mac Hollowell respectively. The Spirit put their first tally on the board at 12:05 of the second with an unassisted goal by Mitchell Stephens. Stephens' scored once again on a shorthanded goal with an assist by Nick Moutrey at the 16:06 mark. The team headed into the locker room with shots on goal favoring the Greyhounds 16-8 for the second period.

The Greyhounds' added two more goals before the last twenty minutes of regulation were completed. Blake Speers and Medric Mercier had the two goals for Sault Ste. Marie, which had the final score read 7-2. Final shots on goal favored Sault Ste. Marie 42-21.

The boys will start off the New Year by traveling to the Compuware Arena on Friday, January 2nd to face the Plymouth Whalers with a start time of 7:05 p.m. Saginaw will come home to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, January 3rd to host the Sarnia Sting with the puck dropping at 7:11 p.m.
