Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Rapid City, SD) -- Forward Garrett Larson was a factor in all three RiverKings goals in a 3-1 victory over the Rapid City Rush on Friday, December 5th at the new Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Larson scored two goals and added an assist in the RiverKings' 12th victory of the year (12-8-0), the team's fifth on its season-long eight game road trip, and its second straight conquest.

After a scoreless first period, Mississippi opened the scoring when Louis Dumont netted his ninth goal of the year, blistering a shot past Rapid City goaltender Lanny Ramage at the 2:04 mark of the period. Larson and Stephen Margeson assisted on the Dumont goal.

Larson then scored the eventual game-winning goal over eight and a half-minutes later, deflecting a shot from the point while he was in front of the Rapid City net for his fifth goal of the year. Jeff Alcombrack and Andrew Lackner assisted on Larson's fifth goal of the season at 10:46 for a 2-0 lead.

Rapid City cut the margin in half when defenseman Gio Flaminio's shot trickled by RiverKings goalie Tyler Sims into the net at 12:11 of the second period for a 2-1 RiverKings advantage after forty minutes.

Defense buckled in for the final period, as no one scored until the very end of the contest. On a breakaway while facing an empty net, Larson received a two-handed stick swipe by a Rapid City defender as time trickled down. Larson's shot went just wide, but the referee ruled it a goal as time expired for the final 3-1 score.

Mississippi out shot the Rush 27-19 with Sims winning his second straight game (2-2-0) with a 17-save performance. Ramage (1-4-2) took the loss in goal for the Rush, stopping 24 of 26 shots on net.

Neither team scored on the power play, as Mississippi was 0-for-6 and the Rush were 0-for-4.

With the victory, the RiverKings returned into a tie for second place in the Northeast Division with Bossier-Shreveport. Both teams have 24 points and are six points the idle Oklahoma City Blazers.
