Ouch! Bucks Burn Sundogs 5-3

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks beat the Arizona Sundogs 5-3 Friday night, in front of 5,312 at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks have won four straight gamees, and nine of their last 10 to improve their Southeast Division leading mark to 14-5 (28pts).

Jeff Bes and Darryl Smith scored two goals apiece, while Sebastien Centomo picked stopped 25 Sundogs shots to pick up the win in net. Centomo now has 70 career CHL victories.

The Bucks (10-3 at home) would take an early lead on the Sundogs 12:11 into the first. Jeff Bes took a feed from Rick Kozak at the high slot and sent a slap shot past Sundogs goaltender Joel Gistedt. The strike extends Bes' CHL-high point streak to 17 games, with Kozak and Darryl Smith picking up the assists. Smith extended his point streak to nine games.

The Bucks are now 10-3 when scoring first this season.

Laredo would increase their lead to 2-0, as they struck for their fourth short-handed goal of the season with 2:39 left in the first. Bes fed Smith on a two-on-one break who re-directed the puck past Gistedt. The tally was Smith's team-leading 14th of the campaign, with Bes picking up his 31st assist.

The Bucks outshot the Sundogs in the first period 10-8.

Laredo would score three more goals in the second period to increase their lead to 5-1 after 40 minutes.

The Bucks would go up 3-0 just 29 seconds into the second period, when Joey Olson scored his second goal of the season with a snap shot from the right circle past Gistedt. Both of Olson's goals this year have come against Arizona.

Laredo would increase their lead to 4-0 just 1:11 into the period, as Smith skated from center ice, knifing past two Sundog defenders and backhanded a shot past Gistedt. The goal was Smith's second of the game, and 15th of the year.

Arizona would get on the board with a shorthanded tally at the 4:34 mark of the period. Sundogs leading scorer Joel Irving snapped shot from the slot past Sebastien Centomo. It was Irving's 14th of the campaign.

The Bucks made it 5-1 at the 10:51 mark of the second, when Bes slammed home a wide open shot from the slot. The goal was Bes' second of the night, and seventh of the year. Smith and Kozak picked up assists.

Laredo outshot Arizona in the second period 15-10.

The Sundogs would score twice in the third period, as Mark Kolanos and Martin Gascon lit the lamp for Arizona.

Immediately after Friday's game the Bucks will travel to Texas to play the Brahmas on Saturday.
