Odessa Jackalopes News Release
The Matchup: It's the second of four meetings tonight between Tulsa and Odessa. The Jacks won the first game, 6-4, in Tulsa on November 29th. Brian Swiniarski's hat trick led a third period comeback by the Jackalopes, who trailed 4-2 with 17:00 to play in period three. Jeff Christian (two goals, one assist) and Michel Beausoleil (one goal, two assists) each had three points for the Tulsa Oilers in the game.
The Odessa Jackalopes: After their 3-1 win over Arizona on Tuesday, the Odessa Jackalopes are riding a five game winning streak. Phil Plante was the only multi-point player in the game with a goal and an assist. Alexandre Vincent entered the game midway through the first period after Juha Toivonen left the game due to injury, and stopped 16 of 17 shots. With the win the Jackalopes are in first place by nine points over the Arizona Sundogs in the Southwest Division. Brian Swiniarski has scored four goals in the last two games for Odessa.
The Tulsa Oilers: Tulsa is currently in fourth place in the Northeast Division 10 points back of third place Mississippi. After being outshot in the second and third periods, the Oilers held off the Texas Brahmas for a 2-1 win on Tuesday night. Michel Beausoleil and Brenden Hodge scored the Oilers' goals in the win. Guy St. Vincent stopped 26 of 27 shots and picked up his third win of the season.
Jackalopes Roster Moves: Mario Joly was placed on the 30-day IR retroactive to November 29th, and Robby Spalding signed with the Jacks on December 2nd to fill his vacancy. Goalie Juha Toivonen has been placed on the 14-day Goaltending IR list after leaving Tuesday's game vs. Arizona with an injury. Dan McWhinney has been signed by the team to backup Alexandre Vincent.
Jackalopes Streaking: After Tuesday's win over Arizona, the Jackalopes have won five consecutive games. In their five-game win streak Odessa has outscored their opponents 22-9. The Jacks have also won back-to-back home games and their last seven road games.
Rookies Providing Punch: Jeff Pierce (24 points) and Mike Lesperance (15 points) are both in the top ten in Overall Points among CHL Rookies. Pierce also leads rookies with 19 assists on the season, and Mike Lesperance is third among first-year players with eight goals. Defenseman Garrett Gruenke is in the top ten among rookies with 34 penalty minutes, including four fighting majors.
Milestone Alert: Dominic Leveille has 190 points in his Jackalopes career currently.
