Toivonen Out, Jacks Make Moves

(Odessa, TX) - Days after Mario Joly was sent to the 30-day IR and Robby Spalding signed with Odessa, the Jackalopes made another pair of roster moves today.
Goaltender Juha Toivonen has been placed on the Goaltending Injured Reserve list, and Dan McWhinney has signed with Odessa to fill the roster opening. By Toivonen being placed on the Goaltending IR list, it means he must stay on IR for a minimum of 14 days and then is eligible to return when ready.
Toivonen suffered a lower body injury during the first period of the Jacks home game against Arizona on December 2nd. Tests determined that Toivonen will be our for a four to six week period. In 16 games this season the Hattula, Finland native was eighth in the CHL with a 2.67 Goals Against Avg. and tied for second in the league with nine wins.
McWhinney is no stranger to the Central Hockey League -- earlier this season he was released by the Wichita Thunder, and spent last season playing with the Amarillo Gorillas. In 48 games last season he compiled a 16-24-6 record with a 3.81 GAA and a .888 Save Percentage.
The Odessa Jackalopes host the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night at 7:05 PM at the Ector County Coliseum.
