Larks Split Series vs Stingers
June 2, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Bismarck Larks News Release
The Larks dropped the second game of the season-opening homestand 6-0.
Willmar starter, Ryan Watson, went seven shutout striking out nine Larks batters and allowed no walks. Perhaps most impressive of his final line, Watson showed the constant ability to attack the strike zone, throwing twenty first pitch strikes out of the total of 27 batters he faced.
In addition to working efficiently, Watson was throwing heat. The Georgia State University product consistently hit 92 on the gun for the Metro-Area Ambulance Fastest Pitch. Larks' batters could not catch up to his fastball.
A bright spot for the Larks despite the loss was the defensive efforts from their catcher, Spencer Sarringar. The Larks backstop continued his impressive start defensively on Tuesday. Sarringar caught another base runner stealing for the Fetzer Electric Play of The Game when Stingers' outfielder, Jakob Newton, attempted to swipe second base. Sarringar now has caught three baserunners over the first two games.
The Larks continue their homestand on Wednesday night, when they take on the Duluth Huskies for a 6:35 first pitch. Duluth will send Tony Cortez making his first start of the 2021 season, while righty Jacob Wesselmann makes his debut for the Larks.
