AMARILLO - The Sod Poodles employed a five-run fifth to knock off the Hooks, 7-5, in Tuesday night's series opener at Hodgetown.

Corpus Christi, 16-12 in the second half, has dropped back-to-back games for the first time since July 14-15.

The Hooks jumped in front thanks to a first-inning home run to by Zach Dezenzo. The two-run poke exited Dezenzo's bat at 105 MPH and traveled an estimated 453 feet as it cleared the bar beyond the left-field fence.

CC then broke a 2-2 stalemate by posting a pair of runs in the fifth. J.C. Correa and C.J. Stubbs began the rally with back-to-back doubles. Joey Loperfido later knocked in Stubbs with a single into left.

Amarillo answered by sending 10 men to the plate in the home half. With two away in the frame, Tim Tawa provided the big hit, a three-run double to center field.

The Hooks were kept off the scoreboard until Kenedy Corona launched a ninth-inning homer to left-center. Corona, who has gone deep three times in his last four games, ranks second in the Astros system with 19 home runs.

Angel Macuare was charged with one earned run over his four-inning start.

Disomerky Taveras provided electric relief as he struck out five over two scoreless innings. Logan VanWey fanned two in a 1-2-3 eighth.
