Lansing wins 900th game in franchise history

LANSING - A battle of terrific pitching performances between the Lansing Lugnuts and Great Lakes extended into extra-innings Tuesday night, before Lansing finally came away with a 2-1 win in 11-innings. The win gave the Lugnuts their 900th victory in franchise history, as Lansing has a 900-839 mark all-time.
Lansing was able to rally for the triumph in the bottom half of the 11th. With the score tied 1-1, John Tolisano and Matt Liuzza were able to single off of reliever Miguel Ramirez to start the inning. After Moises Sierra struck out, Yohermyn Chavez dropped a bloop single into center field the loaded the bases for the Lugnuts.
Mike McDade would then strike out to put two men out, but Jonathan Baksh bounced a single just over the glove of Ramirez that found its way into center field to give Lansing a 2-1 extra-inning win.
Baksh finished the game 4-for-5 with the RBI and a run scored. All of his hits were singles.
Each team received a dominating performance from its starting pitcher, but neither man would factor into the decision.
Luis Perez hurled nine innings for Lansing and allowed just one run on five hits. The start was the longest for any Lansing hurler this season, as Perez allowed just two base runners after the third inning. He struck out seven in the outing and the only run he gave up came in the second on a Parker Dalton RBI single that made it 1-0 at the time.
Justin Miller answered Perez's start with 8 2/3 innings of his own. He gave up just one run on six hits while fanning six. Lansing's only run off of him came in the third frame, as the Lugnuts had Baksh cross on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
Cody Crowell (1-2) got the win for the Lugnuts by tossing the final two innings of the game. He allowed one hit and walked one while striking out three batters.
Ramirez (1-5) suffered the loss for the Loons after giving up the winning run in the 11th.
Lansing (44-32, 5-1) and Great Lakes (32-43, 2-4) will continue the series Wednesday night. A pair of southpaws will take the hill in the contest. Marc Rzepczynski (2-2, 2.36) will get the call for the Lugnuts. He will be opposed by the Loons' Victor Garate (4-2, 2.03). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
