Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (June 24, 2008) - The Burlington Bees fought back from being three runs down Tuesday night but did not have enough to finish the comeback as they lost 5-4 to Peoria. The loss was just the second of the second half for the Bees while the win was the first of the second half for Peoria.
The Bees scored first in the ballgame. In the second inning, David Lough singled with one out and eventually scored on a two-out Nick Van Stratten single. That was the only run the Bees would score until the seventh inning.
Peoria scored one run in both the third and fourth innings and then scored two runs in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Bees loaded the bases with no outs. Kyle Martin hit a single to score Mike Moustakas and Van Stratten had an RBI ground-out, which scored Jason Taylor. The Bees could not score anymore runs in the inning after that despite having runners on second and third with just one out.
Peoria scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to give the Chiefs a two-run lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Ryan Eigsti led off with his sixth homerun of the season to get the Bees back within one run but the Bees could not plate anymore runs in the game.
Alex Caldera got the start for the Bees and allowed four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks. He took the loss to move to 5-6 on the season. Burke Baldwin pitched two innings of scoreless baseball for the Bees out of the bullpen.
The Bees had six hits in the game. Martin had two of them. Van Stratten, playing in his first game since June 10, led the Bees with two RBI.
The Bees and Peoria Chiefs continue the series Wednesday night. Joe Augustine is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is set for 7:00. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. Tickets are available and can be purchased online at www.GoBees.com or by visiting Community Field.
