Texas Stars News Release
Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars are proud to announce that right wing Landon Wilson has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty / AHL Man of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions to the Cedar Park and Greater Austin communities during the 2009-10 season.
In the team's first season in Texas, Wilson embraced his role as a team ambassador and a fan favorite in the community. Landon consistently volunteered for all community and charitable events. The Team Captain is dedicated to his community, spearheading the Hill Country Christmas by adopting a local family and providing gifts, as well as a holiday meal to a less fortunate family. Wilson also assisted the Texas Baptist Children's Home, the Cedar Park Police Blue Santa Toy Drive, Dr. Suess' "Read Across America" Program and the Texas Stars fundraiser "Hockey For Haiti". Wilson made countless school and hospital visits.
In recognition of his efforts, Wilson will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Texas home game.
Wilson is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL's 2009-10 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
