NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals are proud to announce that Ty Wishart has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hampton Roads community during the 2009-10 season.

With a natural ability to relate to children, Wishart devoted his off ice time to putting smiles on the faces of children faced with challenges. Whether painting with young patients at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters or spending time with children with disabilities, Ty always made the children forget any differences and struggles they may be experiencing.

Wishart has volunteered his time as a celebrity waiter to help raise needed funds for organizations fighting to end child abuse and domestic violence, as well as auctioning himself for a dinner date to benefit the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

In recognition of his efforts, Wishart will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.

Wishart is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL's 2009-10 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
