Wolves To Present Anderson With Tim Breslin Unsung Hero Award
March 25, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
The Chicago Wolves will present center MATT ANDERSON with the 2010 Tim Breslin Unsung Hero Award before the team battles the Texas Stars at the Allstate Arena on Sun., March 28, at 3 p.m. The award recognizes the Wolves player who best typifies Breslin's on-ice spirit and team-first attitude.
Breslin, who was one of the first three players signed by the franchise, passed away on Feb. 9, 2005, due to complications from appendiceal cancer, which is a malignancy of the appendix. The Addison native and Driscoll Catholic High School graduate played five seasons with the team and was a member of the 1998 Turner Cup Championship squad. The Breslin family will be on hand to present ANDERSON with the award.
"It is very fitting that Matt Anderson would win this award," said Wolves General Manager Wendell Young, who was a teammate of Breslin's on the 1998 Turner Cup championship team. "Matt gives everything he has on the ice and knows the importance of what playing for the Wolves means off the ice in giving back to the Chicago community as well. He is a mirror image of Tim Breslin in those aspects."
The 27-year-old forward was selected through fan voting on chicagowolves.com from a list of three candidates nominated by the Wolves hockey operations department, which also included defenseman Jamie Hunt and right wing Spencer Machacek.
ANDERSON, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, has set professional career-highs with 25 assists and 38 points in 56 contests this season - his third year with the Wolves. He has recorded 27 goals, 44 assists and 71 points in 136 career games with Chicago and was a member of the 2008 Calder Cup Championship team.
Past winners of the award include current Wolves defenseman Brian Sipotz (2008) and center Kevin Doell (2006), and former Wolves players Steve Martins (2009), Brian Fahey (2007) and Tim Wedderburn (2005).
