Lancers Edge Tri-City in a Nail Biter

OMAHA, NE. - The Lancers were looking to knock off the first place Tri-City Storm for the second time in as many weeks inside of Ralston Arena.
The Lancers got a nice treat just after the opening draw as Vinny Borgesi picked up a checking from behind penalty just 21 seconds in. But besides putting up the first few shots on the night, had nothing to show for it on the man advantage.
Just a few minutes after that penalty expired, Vincent Salice netted his first goal as a Lancer, and his fourth of the season. Ryan Gillespie found Luke Strickland in the neutral zone, who then fed Salice just inside the blue line. Salice made a man miss and backhanded a beautiful shot right over the glove hand of Tri-City Storm goaltender, Arsenii Sergeev. Making it a 1-0 game, 6:37 into the first period.
The rest of the period was silent on the scoreboard, as Omaha held their lead into the first intermission.
The Storm wasted no time tying the game in the second period. Just under two minutes in, Josh Eernisse collected the puck in the neutral zone on a play set up my Kieran Cebrian and Dane Dowiak, made his way around Omaha defenseman, Nolan Hayes and tied the game at one off a nice shot by the left skate of Lancers goaltender, Kevin Pasche.
Scoring was silenced once again for the next 33 minutes as the game winner did not come until there was just 5:39 left in regulation.
Morgan Winters picked up the game-winner and his first goal in the orange and white off a pass from Hayes and Hunter McDonald. Winters found himself on a breakaway, and beat Sergeev down low, blocker side. Taking the 2-1 lead.
Tri-City pulled Sergeev with just under 1:30 left in the final period for the extra attacker, but could not capitalize. Handing the Lancers a 2-1 victory.
The Lancers now move in the second place in the western conference and have a record of 12-5-2-0 on the year.
Tri-City still sits in first place in the western conference, but falls to a 15-4-1-0 record.
The Lancers will be back in action against the Sioux City Musketeers tomorrow night (12/11) for a 6:05 P.M. puck drop at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa. That game can be caught on MixLR and HockeyTV.
