DUBUQUE, Iowa - On the heels of winning in an eight-round shootout, the Dubuque Fighting Saints took care of business more traditionally on Friday night. Ryan Beck posted four points, and the Fighting Saints scored a trio of goals in the third period to defeat the Youngstown Phantoms 5-3 at the Mystique Community Ice Center.

Beck broke the tie halfway through the third period. Stephen Halliday looked to thread the needle on a back door tip play, but the pass did not connect. Beck collected the puck on the end wall and caught Owen Bartoszkiewicz unaware and put the puck into the open goal to give the Fighting Saints a 3-2 lead. Samuel Sjölund added an assist on the play.

William Hallén added a goal on a spectacular individual effort at 15:07, and the Fighting Saints preyed on Youngstown's frustration. Nearly immediately, the Phantoms went back to the penalty box, and Dubuque capitalized. Beck spotted Halliday from circle to circle, and the league's leading scorer powered a shot top shelf to cap Dubuque's scoring.

While Stiven Sardarian scored late, Youngstown's final foray fell short. Paxton Geisel made 22 saves to secure the win, which was his sixth consecutive win. The Saints have won six of the last seven games as a result.

The Fighting Saints opened the scoring close to the halfway point of the first period. Beck pounced on a turnover in front of the net and sizzled a shot wide of the goal. The puck bounded hard off the glass and right to Lemyre who stashed the puck into the net to give the Fighting Saints a 1-0 lead. That lead would stand until the second period.

A wild flurry of offense gave the second period chaotic flair right from the get-go. Evan Werner scored for the Phantoms at the 1:14 mark to even the score at one. However, Ryan Beck popped in the rebound of a Lemyre shot to give the Saints a momentary lead- that lasted all of one minute. Bayard Hall tied the game at two apiece with a shot from the point.

It was Dubuque's power play that set the game apart. The Fighting Saints' two power play goals came in the third period, broke the tie, and ultimately solved the game overall. Dubuque outshot Youngstown 31-25 for the game. As a result of the win, the Fighting Saints have taken four out of a possible six points to this point with one game to go on Saturday night.

The puck drops on the weekend finale at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at DubuqueFightingSaints.com.
