Caps Dominate Gamblers with Full 60 Minute Performance and Stellar Goaltending from Ramirez
December 11, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
A complete 60 minutes and outstanding goaltending powers the Madison Capitols to a 4-1 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers in tonight's home-and-home series opener.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Capitols poured on a trio of goals in the 2nd period in a span of 10 minutes to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Barrett Brooks is coming off of scoring his first career USHL goal last Friday night and he picked up right where he left off. Brooks netted the first two goals of the game tonight. Reid Pabich muscled his way to take control of a puck battle in the offensive zone and was able to find Brooks who blasted it home wide open on the back door at 8:26 of the middle frame. 5:23 later, Caps blueliner Ben Dexheimer gloved down a Gamblers clearing attempt and slid a pass to Brooks who fired a shot 5-hole all alone from the high slot. Madison forward Brendan Lamb had the secondary assist on both lamp lighters.
The Caps would expand on their lead just 2:53 later when captain Casey Severo created a turnover in the offensive zone and fed a wide open Nick DeSantis on the back door for his team leading ninth goal of the season. Early in the 3rd period, Kyle Kukkonen received a backhand pass from defenseman Blake Dangos and then sent a cross-ice missile to Reid Pabich who fired it home off a one-timer to take a 4-0 lead over the Gamblers.
"I was really impressed by the win tonight," Caps bench boss Tom Upton said. "I thought that was a true team win. Marino Ramirez was tremendous in net for us and I thought the team did a great job of limiting Green Bay's chances in our d-zone."
Ramirez was lights out for Madison this evening. He turned away 22 of the 23 shots he faced with some being much more difficult than others. On the opposite, the Capitols put 41 shots on Aaron Randazzo tonight.
Ben Dexheimer extended his point streak to five games with his primary helper in the second period. He will look to extend that streak tomorrow night when the Caps close out this weekend's home-and-home series against the Gamblers at the Resch Center.
