Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - The Tri-City Storm scored with just over a minute remaining in regulation to tie the game and eventually top the Sioux Falls Stampede, 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night at the PREMIER Center. Sioux Falls outshot the Storm 5-0 in overtime, but were outscored 2-0 in the shootout. Sam Harris and Garrett Pinoniemi scored goals while Noah Grannan stopped 28 of 30 shots in goal for the Herd who have now registered at least a point in five of their last six games.

The Stampede got themselves into trouble in the first period when Clint Levens was given a five-minute major and a game-misconduct for checking from behind 12:48 into the hockey game. It took the Storm just 60 seconds to find the back of the net when Cole O'Hara picked up a loose puck in the slot and backhanded it past Noah Grannan for a 1-0 lead. Fortunately for the Herd, that would be the only goal they would allow on the five-minute major and the score would stay through the end of the first twenty minutes with Tri-City outshooting the Stampede 9-2.

The Stampede offense got rolling in the second period through an unlikely source, the power play. With the Herd on the advantage, Cal Thomas fired a shot that was stopped, but Sam Harris was on the doorstep and quickly wristed the puck just under the crossbar and into the net to tie the game at 10:52. Minutes later the Herd would go back on the power play and once again they would strike. This time it was Garrett Pinoniemi who found the puck in front of the net and quickly wristed it into the net for a 2-1 lead and an assist from Cal Thomas. Sioux Falls outshot the Storm 10-8 in the period and took that lead into the third period of play.

Tri-City was doing everything they could in period number three to try and tie the game, throwing 13 shots on net. Grannan continued his brilliant play in between the pipes and kept the Storm off the board until just over a minute left when they knocked in a shot with an extra attacker. With the puck bouncing around inside the crease, Lleyton Roed squeaked the puck past Grannan to tie the game and force overtime.

The Stampede dominated the overtime session, but Tri-City goaltender Chase Clark was amazing between the pipes, making several highlight reel saves. The Herd had several good opportunities from point blank range, tallying five shots in the overtime, but Clark stopped all of them to force a shootout.

Tri-City would score in rounds one and three of the shootout while the Stampede were denied on both of their attempts and fell in the shootout 2-0 and 3-2 in the game.

The Stampede outshot the Herd 5-0, but were outshot in the game 31-23. Sioux Falls finished the night 2-for-6 on the power play while Tri-City was 1-for-6.

Sioux Falls and Tri-City meet again Sunday at 4:05 PM inside the PREMIER Center. It is Teddy Bear Toss night, presented by Jersey Mike's. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game and toss it onto the ice after the Stampede score their first goal of the game. All bears collected will be brought to area non-profit groups for children in need during the holidays. Fans can also bring their skates to the game and skate with the team after the game on the PREMIER Center ice. Tickets are available through the KELOLAND Box Office or Ticketmaster.
