Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - The Lancers and Musketeers took the ice on Sunday at Ralston Arena. It was the third time these two teams have faced each other and the first time in Omaha. The series between the two was split at one win each. Omaha called on Vinnie Purpura to play in net. Purpura, who recently committed to Boston University, is ranked fifth in the USHL among goalies with a 2.15 GAA and a .922 SV%.

Less than a minute into the first period, Sioux City scored first. Nearing the end of the first Filip Suchy went to work with Noah Cates. Suchy took the puck down from the right wing and cut in front of the net with it. The puck was lost in translation and Noah Cates found it and put it in the net. The game stayed tied 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, Sioux City broke in front again to take the 2-1 lead. Moments later, Filip Suchy evened the game up with a snipe from the right circle. The game stayed tied 2-2 heading into the second intermission.

In the third period, Jack Randl got the Lancers ahead. Sioux City scored after their power play expired on a 3-on-1 to tie it up and force overtime.

No goals were scored in the extra frame and the game went to a shootout. Four shooters for each team went, then Micah Miller scored on Purpura. Nick Perbix stepped up to keep the shootout going but was stopped by Ben Kraws. The Musketeers took the 4-3 win.

Purpura stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced.

The Lancers are now 31-14-2-3 with 67 points. Omaha sits at second place in the USHL West, one point behind the Waterloo Black Hawks.
