Madison Capitols News Release
PLYMOUTH, MI - The Madison Capitols broke their three-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Central Illinois Flying Aces at Grossinger Motors Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Madison (21-26-2-2) is ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference with 46 points. Central Illinois (13-34-2-3) sits in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 31 points.
Left wing Alec Broetzman netted his second goal of the game at 5:08 of the final frame. Center Anthony Callin won the face-off in the right circle back to Broetzman. The left wing took two strides before wristing the puck into the top left corner of the net to give Madison a 4-2 advantage.
Madison took an early 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 1:31 of the opening frame. Cycling the puck with the extra attacker, defenseman Colin Felix held the puck at the center point before finding right wing Ryan O'Reilly in the left face-off circle. O'Reilly snagged the pass and ripped a snap shot five-hole on goaltender Zach Stejskal for a 1-0 lead.
At 17:20 of the first period, Central Illinois tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal of their own. Defenseman Simon Butala wristed a shot from the right face-off circle that right wing Steven Agriogianis got his stick on to sneak the puck past goaltender Joey Lamoreaux to tie the game.
Broetzman gave the Capitols a 2-1 lead with his 21st goal of the season at the one-minute mark of the second period. O'Reilly grabbed the puck in the left face-off circle and passed it over to Broetzman in the right circle. Broetzman one-timed the puck into the back of the net to give Madison the go-ahead goal.
Madison took a 3-1 lead with forward Kamil Sadlocha's 13th goal of the season at 10:25 of the middle frame. Center Michael Mancinelli passed the puck to left wing Mick Messner in the right face-off circle. Messner snapped a shot on net that Stejskal saved, but the puck fell in the slot. Sadlocha scooped up the rebound and let it soar into the net for the two-goal lead.
Center Max Andreev brought the Flying Aces to within one with his 11th goal of the season at 3:21 of the third period. Andreev won the face-off in the right circle back to defenseman Zach Metsa at the right point. Metsa fired a shot toward the net that Andreev got his stick on and beat Lamoreaux to bring the score to 3-2.
Defenseman Colin Felix put the Capitols up 5-2 with his seventh goal of the season, a power play tally, at 7:24 of the third period. Callin passed the puck to center Ludwig Stenlund in the right face-off circle. Stenlund found Felix in the left circle for a one-timer that beat Stejskal.
The Flying Aces continued to battle back as right wing Jeremy Davidson scored his sixth goal of the season at 14:31 of the final period. Right wing Khristian Acosta picked the puck up of the corner left wing end boards and found Davidson in the slot. Davidson held the puck as Lamoreaux went down on the ice before flipping the goal into the net.
Mancinelli finished off the scoring with his 15th goal of the season. Sadlocha carried the puck down the right wing and found Mancinelli in the high slot. Mancinelli ripped a one-timer into the top right corner of the net for a 6-3 final score.
Lamoreaux (3-6-1-0) earned his third win of the season stopping 26-of-29 shots. Stejskal (5-16-0-1) took his 16th loss of the season stopping 29-of-35 shots.
Madison went 2-for-6 on the power play. Central Illinois was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
Notables: The Capitols snapped a three-game losing streak...Right wing Ryan O'Reilly is on a five-game point streak with three goals and three assists for six points...Center Ludwig Stenlund has five goals and four assists in his last eight games.
