Lancaster Well Represented in All-Star Game
July 6, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
Local favorite Pete Andrelczyk headlines a list of seven Lancaster Barnstormers who have been selected to play in the Atlantic League All-Star Game to be held at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Wednesday, July 13, it was announced today.
Participants in the All-Star Game were chosen by managers and league executives. Each side will have 13 position players and nine pitchers.
Andrelczyk, a product of Manheim Township High School, is in his third season with the Barnstormers and is headed to his (second/third) Atlantic League All-Star Game, but this one has particular meaning for the Lancaster resident.
"It's an honor to be selected to any All-Star Game," said Andrelczyk. "To be selected to play in your hometown is something special. There are very few people who can say they played in an All-Star Game in the place where they grew up. I am very appreciative of the opportunity to represent the Barnstormers and am very happy to call Lancaster my home."
Andrelczyk, 30, has appeared in 27 games this season, despite missing time in May with a shoulder ailment. In 27.1 innings, he has allowed only 21 hits and 10 walks and has struck out 27. He is 3-0 with two saves on the year.
The right-handed reliever will be joined on the Freedom Division pitching staff by bullpen mate Cory Burns, who has notched 14 saves for the Barnstormers on the season.
Five Barnstormers are slated to be in Stan Cliburn's Freedom Division starting lineup. Catcher Charlie Cutler will be behind the plate for the Freedom Division. In the season's first half, Cutler batted .267 with three homers and 24 RBI while appearing in 54 games.
Shortstop Kevin Ahrens and third baseman Josh Bell will form the left side of the infield. Ahrens, who was moved to shortstop with an early injury to Lance Zawadzki, has been one of Lancaster's steadiest contributors, batting .298, good for eighth in the league, with 41 RBI, ranking him fifth. Bell is Lancaster's biggest home run threat, having slugged 10, and is the third top RBI man with 43.
Caleb Gindl, who is batting .308 on the strength of 25 multi-hit games, will start in the outfield. Joining him will be Sean Halton, his former Milwaukee Brewers teammate. Halton has produced 25 extra base hits since joining Lancaster in mid-May, including six in one four-game series against Sugar Land over Memorial Day weekend.
There will also be a strong gathering of Barnstormers of the past in the game. One-time Lancaster relievers Derrick Loop, Cody Eppley and Ricardo Gomez will all be on the Freedom Division squad as will utility infielder Bryant Nelson and outfielders Jamar Walton and Travis Witherspoon. Witherspoon was with the Barnstormers earlier in the 2016 season before being dealt to York for left-handed starter Kelvin De La Cruz.
Fehlandt Lentini, an All-Star for the Barnstormers in 2012, will represent the Long Island Ducks on the Liberty Division squad.
