Five Skeeters Named to Atlantic League All-Star Team

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that five members of the 2016 club will represent the Freedom Division in the 2016 Atlantic League All-Star Game. The players named include: catcher Travis Scott, outfielder Jeremy Barfield and pitchers Derrick Loop, Andrew Johnston and Robbie Weinhardt. The 19th annual mid-summer classic will be held on Wednesday, July 13 at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, Pa.

Scott has split time between catcher and first base in 2016. Scott is batting .257 (49x191) with 10 HR and 32 RBI. Scott's 10 homers are 2nd on the team and tied for 4th in the Atlantic League. His 32 RBI are good for 3rd on the team. This will be Scott's third All-Star appearance after appearing in the 2013 and 2015 All-Star Game. Scott was the All-Star Game MVP in 2015.

Barfield has been the the Skeeters most dangerous offensive threat this season and his numbers rank among the league's best. Barfield is batting .317 (79x249) (3rd in ATL) with 11 HR (3rd in ATL) and 45 RBI (2nd in ATL). Barfield leads the league in extra base-hits with 30.

Loop has continued to find success on the mound as the Skeeters closer and has only given up four earned runs dating back to June 23 of the 2015 season in over 50 appearances. In 2016, Loop has posted a 0.87 ERA and is 16/17 on save opportunities. The left-hander has struck out 36 batters and walked 11 in 31.0 IP. This will be Loop's second All-Star appearance after representing the Skeeters in 2015.

Johnston has been the set-up man for the Skeeters this season and his consistent command has allowed him to record a WHIP of 0.77. As a reliever, Johnston is currently tied for second on the team in wins after going (5-1, 1.00 ERA). Johnston has struck out 27 with a team low three walks in 36.0 IP.

Weinhardt has been another solid pitcher for the Skeeters out of the pen this season. The former major-leaguer is also tied for second on the team in wins as he's recorded a 5-4 record with a 2.45 ERA). Weinhardt has 32 strikeouts with 10 walks over 32.0 IP.
