SUGAR LAND, TEXAS - The Sugar Land Skeeters defeated the New Britain Bees 4-2 on Wednesday night to secure the series win. The Skeeters are now 2-1 in the second half and 37-36 on the season. Sugar Land currently holds a half game lead in the Freedom Division.
Sean Gallagher had a solid outing after going six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and two walks. Haviland also had a respectable start, going six innings, giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Derrick Loop earned his 17th save which is tied for 2nd in the Atlantic League.
Craig Maddox opened up the scoring for the Bees with a single in the 1st that would score Jon Jones to put New Britain up 1-0. The Bees would go onto take a 2-0 lead in the 3rd on a single to center by Craig Maddox. Jeff Dominguez' error on the play would allow Jon Jones to score.
The Skeeters got a run back in the 4th on Ricky Hague's single that would score Jeremy Barfield to make it 2-1. Barfield blasted a solo shot to left in the 6th that would tie the game at 2-2. Sugar Land rallied against Brandon Fry with two outs in the 7th to take a 4-2 lead starting with Josh Prince' double that would push Albert Cordero across. Jeff Dominguez followed with a single up the middle that would bring home Prince. Fry was charged with his 2nd loss of the season.
