Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, CT- July 6, 2016) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (2-1, 32-41) fell to the York Revolution (1-2, 41-32) 9-3 Wednesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, in the conclusion of a three game series which opened up the second half of play in the 2016 season. The Bluefish are now 6-8 against the First Half winners of the Freedom Division. York's defense helped their pitcher all night long, turning a season-high four double plays.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Blake Beavan (3-3) suffered the loss in the outing, surrendering six runs (three earned runs) on nine hits in five innings pitched for the 'Fish, walking and striking out one. York Starting Pitcher Micah Owings (3-3) earned the win for the Revolution, allowing three runs (one earned run) on eight hits in five innings on the mound, striking out two batters.
York got things started offensively in top half of the fourth inning off Beavan, plating a pair of runs to go up 2-0. Andres Perez drove home Michael Burgess with the game's first run by way of an RBI double. Alfredo Marte singled home Perez to double the lead for the visitors. York continued their success in top half of the fifth inning, batting around and sending four home to make it 6-0 in favor of the visitors. The Revs had nine hits in their first five innings at the plate offensively.
The Bluefish got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth against Owings, putting up three runs to cut the deficit in half. Luis Nunez would be the first to score for the 'Fish after lacing a leadoff double and crossing the plate when Rossmel Perez singled to break up the shutout. Adron Chambers doubled Perez home and Endy Chavez grounded out to allow Chambers to score, shrinking Bridgeport's deficit to 6-3. York would respond with three insurance runs in the next two innings to cement the win. Jared Mitchell would score for the second time in the ballgame in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Michael Burgess to extend the lead to 7-3. In the top of the seventh inning Salvador Paniagua would drive home a pair with a double and that was more than enough as York came away with the 9-3 victory to salvage the finale of the three-game set. Bridgeport's offense was led by four different players, as Chavez, Perez, Welington Dotel, and Jonathan Galvez each registered two hits.
