Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA: The Lancaster JetHawks took the finale of a three-game series over Inland Empire at San Manuel Stadium on Friday by a score of 8-2 to complete a sweep. It was the second time this season the JetHawks swept the 66ers in their home park. Inland Empire was outscored in the series 23-4.

The 66ers took a 2-1 lead against the JetHawks (28-26) in the bottom of the fourth inning when with two outs Tim Arakawa ripped a triple scoring Ayendy Perez who had singled. It was Arakawa's third triple of the season and his 20th RBI. Righty Josh James settled down for Lancaster on the mound and went 5.2 IP despite allowing five walks surrendered just the two runs on five hits with six K's to improve to 4-2 on the year and 2-0 versus Inland Empire (18-37).

The lead was a short one as IE starter Jake Jewell (0-6) walked the first batter in the top of the fifth on four pitches. The walk was an ominous harbinger of things to come as the 66ers allowed five runs on three hits in the frame and also walked two batters (one intentionally) and failed to turn a double play. Drew Ferguson had a two-run double in the frame for the JetHawks and finished 2-for-3 in the game. The JetHawks added insurance in the ninth inning with two unearned runs to make it 8-2. Jewell allowed six runs on six hit in five innings with four walks and six Ks.

Hutton Moyer finished the game 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and was also hit by a pitch for the Sixers as the former Pepperdine Univ. star reached base five times. Arakawa and Taylor Ward each had two hits for the Sixers while Michael Strentz doubled. Inland Empire took a season-high eight walks but could not translate them into runs as the club stranded a season-worst 13 runners aboard.

Inland Empire opens a series at Rancho Cucamonga Saturday at 7:05 pm. It can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
