Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The JetHawks used a five-run fifth inning to carry them to an 8-2 win and a sweep of the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night at San Manuel Stadium.
The 66ers (18-37) had taken the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning before the JetHawks (28-26) erupted in the fifth. Bobby Boyd brought across the tying run on a squeeze bunt, and after an intentional walk to Ramon Laureano, Bryan Muniz walked to bring home the go-ahead run. Drew Ferguson added a two-run double later in the inning to put Lancaster ahead, 6-1.
Josh James (4-2) went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked a career-high five batters.
Jake Jewell (0-6) took the loss for the 66ers, allowing six runs on six hits over five innings.
The JetHawks scored in the first inning for the second time in the series. Laureano hit a two-out triple to right field and scored on a Muniz single. Muniz was later thrown out at home plate trying to score on a Ferguson base-hit.
Inland Empire tied the game in the first with a two-out rally of their own. Hutton Moyer doubled and came around to score on a Taylor Ward single. The next two hitters walked but James was able to strand the bases loaded.
Lancaster added its final two runs in the ninth inning thanks to two Inland Empire errors. Laureano came up with an RBI-single in the frame.
The sweep is the JetHawks second of the season, both of which have come against Inland Empire.
With the victory, Lancaster is now a season-best two games above .500 and just 4.5 games out of first place in the South Division.
The JetHawks welcome the Modesto Nuts to Lancaster for a four-game series beginning on Saturday night at The Hangar. Scott Weathersby (1-3) will start against Carlos Polanco (1-3). First pitch is 6:05 p.m.
