Marlette & Co. Ambush Ports in Sweep

June 4, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

Whatever cloud Tyler Marlette is on right now, he hopes the ride doesn't end any time soon. Marlette lit up the Stockton skies with another multi-home run performance as he hit a two-run blast and a solo shot during Bakersfield's (26-28) 8-6 victory over the Ports (20-34).

Marlette's power was contagious on Friday night as Drew Jackson launched a two-run homer and Justin Seager drove a fastball over the right field wall during a three-game series sweep in front of 3,411 at Banner Island Ballpark.

For a team that as been rather average at Sam Lynn Ballpark, the Blaze feel right at home on the road as they sport a 15-12 record that includes eight wins in their last 10 games.

Eddie Campbell improved his record to 5-4 on the season, but it wasn't pretty. Campbell walked seven batters, gave up six hits, and surrendered three runs in five innings of work. The lefty was on the ropes several times, but Stockton could never deliver a knockout punch. With Campbell near the breaking point, Marlette and the rest of the Blaze came to his rescue.

For the third time this season, Marlette produced a multi-home run performance and it started in the fourth inning. His solo blast to left was all part of a four-run frame that included Drew Jackson's two-run bomb off Casey Meisner (L, 0-9).

Not done by any means, Marlette buried Meisner for good in the fifth after he crushed a pitched into deep left-center field for a two-run home run giving the Blaze a 7-3 lead.

Stockton tried to make the game interesting on several occasions, but they were unable to deliver in the clutch. The Ports left 14 runners on base and were 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The Blaze will now seek some revenge in San Jose as they square off against the Giants in a four-game series. The Giants swept the Blaze in Bakersfield in their previous series and now the two teams will lock up in their second encounter of the year.

First pitch is at 6:00pm and David Gascon will have all the action on TuneInRadio and BakersfieldBlaze.com
