
Weathersby Paces Jethawks To 7-4 Win In Series Opener

LANCASTER, Calif. - Scott Weathersby tossed five shutout innings to lead the Lancaster JetHawks to a 7-4 victory over the Modesto Nuts in the opener of a four-game series on Saturday night at The Hangar.
Weathersby (2-3) retired 15 of the 18 batters he faced, at one point setting down eight straight and striking out four in a row.
The right-hander finished the night with five strikeouts, allowed three hits, and did not walk a batter.
Brooks Marlow put the JetHawks up early with a majestic two-run homer with two out in the first inning. It was his second home run of the season since joining the JetHawks from Low-A Quad Cities.
Lancaster went up 5-0 with a run in the second and two more in the third. Drew Ferguson delivered an RBI single, while the other two runs scored on a wild pitch and an error.
Brock Dykxhoorn took over on the mound for the JetHawks in the sixth inning and Modesto began its comeback with three straight hits off the right-hander. The Nuts scored three times in the frame. Shane Hoelscher drove in a pair with a double and Dom Nunez came through with an RBI single. Hoelscher had two doubles and a triple in the game.
The Nuts rallied for another run in the eighth with three straight two-out singles by Emerson Jimenez, Omar Carrizales, and Wes Rogers.
Ramon Laureano brought home two big insurance runs with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth for the JetHawks, increasing his team-leading RBI total to 32. Ryan Deemes threw a scoreless ninth to earn his third save in as many opportunities.
Every starter for the JetHawks recorded at least one hit. Johnny Sewald, Garrett Stubbs, and Luis Reynoso had two hits apiece for Lancaster. They out-hit Modesto 12-11.
The JetHawks (29-26) and Nuts (21-34) continue their four-game series on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar. Matt Bower (1-1) will start for Lancaster against Ryan Castellani (1-5). First pitch is 2:05 p.m.
