Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that John Lammers has been assigned to the team from their NHL affiliate, the Dallas Stars, Craig Cescon has agreed to terms, and former Steelhead Derek Paget has been signed to a tryout contract.
Lammers, a high scoring winger on an NHL contract with Dallas, tallied 43 points (27g-16) in 36 games with the Steelheads last season. The 22-year-old opened the 2007-08 season in Finland while also playing with Idaho's former American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Stars. In 2007, Lammers was instrumental in helping the Steelheads to the Kelly Cup Championship, scoring 19 points (7g-12a) in 22 playoff games after being reassigned from Iowa. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Langley, BC native was a third round pick (86th overall) of the Stars in the 2004 NHL Draft.
At 6-foot-2 and 215-pounds, defenseman Cescon, returns for his second season with the Steelheads. In 2007-08, his 149 penalty minutes ranked second (behind Lance Galbraith) on the team. Cescon, 22, helped the Peterborough Petes to the 2004-05 Ontario Hockey League championship. Cescon's uncle is Hall of Famer Darryl Sittler who played 15 seasons in the NHL.
Left winger Paget has been invited to camp in his bid to return to the Steelheads. A veteran of Idaho's (now defunct) West Coast Hockey League squad, the 6-foot, 190 pound power forward was on Idaho's first ECHL Kelly Cup Championship team in 2003-04. In three seasons with the Steelheads (2001-04), the 27-year-old scored 41 goals and 55 assists for 96 points, while accumulating 252 penalty minutes. In 28 playoff games with Idaho, he had 19 points (7g-12a) and 43 PIMS. Paget has not played professionally since winning the Kelly Cup in 2004.
In other transactions: The Steelheads traded goaltender Kellen Brigg's ECHL rights to the Ontario Reign for future considerations.
Idaho's training camp opens on Friday, Oct. 3. The team will travel to McCall on Monday and play two preseason games against the Victoria Salmon Kings at the Manchester Ice Centre in McCall on Oct. 10 and 11.
The Steelheads open their season at home on Saturday, Oct. 18. A variety of Season Ticket Plans for the 2008-09 season, with reduced pricing in some sections, are now available by calling (208) 383.0080 or visiting the team's website at www.idahosteelheads.com.
