Lammers And Beagle Each Record Three Points In Steelheads' Thrilling 4-3 Win Over Condors

Bakersfield, CA - John Lammers even-strength tally midway through the third period snapped a 3-3 tie, as the Steelheads earned a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 5,020 fans at Rabobank Arena on Wednesday night.

On the eventual game-winner, Tuomas Mikkonen kept the puck in the offensive zone and worked the puck to rookie center Jay Beagle who centered to Lammers at the right side of the Condors' cage. Lammers snagged the puck and wristed it over the glove of Jamie Hodson (35 saves) for his second goal since joining the club on March 21.

With the win, the Steelheads (40-24-2-4) hold onto fourth place in the National Conference and they run their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-0-1), while picking up their 20th victory away from home. The Condors (41-17-3-9) meanwhile, have their two-game unbeaten streak snapped as the Steelheads are now 4-1-0-0 against them this season.

After a stalemate through the first 10 minutes of the opening contest, the Condors netted two goals in less than two minutes by Brett Lutes to take a 2-0 lead. At 11:36, Lutes converted on the power play, stuffing home a rebound off the shot by defenseman Steve Rodberg. Sean Venedam got the second assist on Lutes 32nd of the campaign.

Then at the 13:22 mark, Lutes found himself wide open in the slot and he beat Steelheads' goaltender Steve Silverthorn (31 saves) five-hole for an even-strength tally. Off a Condors' offensive zone draw, Kevin St. Jacques took a pass from Josh Liebenow and hit Lutes for his fourth multi-game of the season.

Late in the period the Steelheads got a break when B.J. Crombeen's 50 foot shot from the right wing side glanced off the blocker of Hodson and found the back of the net. Defenseman Colin Peters and Beagle set up Crombeen's seventh marker in 11 games.

With 20 minutes expired, the Condors led 2-1 on the scoreboard and 16-10 in shots.

Midway through the second period Steelheads' winger Derek Nesbitt blocked a shot off his right instep and the puck caromed into the Steelheads' slot where Condors' winger Josh Liebenow ripped a shot through a screen and inside the left post for his 27th of the season. Kevin Truelson grabbed the lone helper on the even-strength tally that put the Condors in front 3-1.

Less than two minutes later, Steelheads' defenseman Kory Scoran followed up a rush by Lammers and beat Hodson through his legs for his second career marker. The Steelheads then tied the contest in the final minute of the stanza on Beagle's snap shot from the side of the crease that banged off the crossbar and over the goal line. Lammers and Peters assisted on Beagle's second goal in six professional games.

The final shots favored the Steelheads, 39-34. The Steelheads power play finished zero-for-eight, while their penalty kill ended four-for-five. Silverthorn picked up his 35th win on the night, which leads the ECHL. Hodson's loss is just the ninth he's suffered all season. Beagle now has three consecutive three-point outings, and 10 points in his first six ECHL contests.
