SALISBURY, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws were without their best offensive player Sunday night as 1B Jim Murphy was not in the Starting Lineup, but it made no difference in the series finale against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Lakewood scored 10 runs in the game on 18 hits to make a winner out of RHP David Buchanan. Buchanan improved to 9-5 on the year, and became the first pitcher in the South Atlantic League to get to 9 wins in 2011. The victory gives Lakewood a 2-1 series win over the Shorebirds.

Every batter in the lineup had at least 1 hit in game for Lakewood as everyone stepped up big in Murphy's absence on Sunday. Anthony Hewitt and Cameron Rupp each went 3-5 and Hewitt smacked his 9th HR of the season. Geancarlo Mendez was 2-5, but had a season high 5 RBI's including a 3 RBI double.

Starting Pitcher David Buchanan didn't have his best outing, but he pitched well enough to get the win. He allowed 8 hits and 5 runs over 6 innings before giving way to reliever Mario Hollands. Hollands was fantastic pitching 2 perfect innings. Lendy Castillo pitched the 9th to get close it out for Lakewood. The BlueClaws got to Delmarva starter Jacob Pettit who lasted only 3 1/3rd innings and gave up 12 hits and 8 runs.

Lakewood comes home to start a 7 game home stand beginning on Monday evening. First up is a 3 game series against the Hagerstown Suns, then 4 games against the Kannapolis Intimidators. On Monday, it is 2 red hot pitchers facing off. LHP Jesse Biddle gets the start for Lakewood. He is 3-6 with a 3/55 ERA but has been very good as of late. RHP Taylor Jordan starts for Hagerstown. Jordan comes in at 8-4 with a 2.63 ERA. First Pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:05 pm at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. There will be fireworks after the ballgame thanks to Toyota World/Scion World of Lakewood.
