Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power lost 10-2 Sunday afternoon to the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The Power bats were held to three hits over the game's first six innings by Grasshoppers' starter Rett Varner, and the Greensboro bats built a 8-0 lead by the middle of the seventh.

Greensboro started the damage early picking up a run in the first inning on a single from Christian Yelich that scored Marcell Ozuna.

The Grasshoppers picked up two more runs in the fourth inning with a two run long ball delivered by Jacob Realmuto.

Colton Cain (5-6) threw four innings for the Power giving up three runs on four hits and striking out five. However, the Grasshoppers would do most of their run scoring against the Power bullpen picking up seven runs over the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.

West Virginia did get some offense in the later frames. In the seventh, Rogelio Noris drove a ball down the left field line that scored Cole White as Noris reached safely with a double. The Power added a second run in the eighth on a single to right field from Cole White, playing Andy Vasquez. The two runs certainly not enough against the barrage of offense from the 'Hoppers.

With the victory on Sunday, Greensboro swept the three game series, and outscored West Virginia 32-14 during the three game set.

West Virginia travels to Lexington on Monday to open a three game series against the Legends. The Power will toss Jameson Taillon against Luis Cruz at 7:05 pm. West Virginia's next homestand begins Tuesday, July 12, against the Lexington Legends.

SECOND HALF RECORD: 5-6

OVERALL POWER RECORD: 40-39
