Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA -The Charleston Riverdogs defeated the Rome Braves 4-2 Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,078. Rome hits the road for a three game set with Savannah before returning home on Thursday for a four game series with the Greenville Drive.

The Riverdogs got on the board quickly in the top of the first after Kevin Mahoney walked with two outs and scored later on an RBI single by Ramon Flores to give Charleston a 1-0 lead.

Rome would tie the game with some two out hitting of their own in the bottom of the fourth. David Rohm yanked a double down the left field line and Robert Hefflinger drove him in with an RBI single. Charleston regained the lead in the top of the sixth thanks to RBI singles by Eduardo Sosa and Kevin Mahoney. Later in the inning a Kyle Higashioka hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the final run of the inning and give Charleston a 4-1 lead.

The Braves edged a run in the bottom of the eighth after Tommy La Stella walked, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chris Garcia to cut the lead to 4-2. Unfortunately that's all the Charleston bullpen would give up and the game would end with a 4-2 score and the Riverdogs leave town with a series victory.

Francisco Rondon (1-0) earns the win for Charleston and Willie Kempf (0-2) takes the loss for Rome. Mark Montgomery (2) earns the save.

The Braves head to Savannah for three games and return home on Thursday to begin a four game series with the Greenville Drive. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
