Lake Erie Pulls Away Late from Boulders, 9-6

POMONA, NY - In a rainy day matchup, the New York Boulders put up a spirited fight, but ultimately fell short in a 9-6 final against the Lake Erie Crushers on Friday.

The Boulders started the game strong, with Chris Kwitzer's plate appearance resulting in an earned run during the first inning. Kwitzer struck out swinging but capitalized on a passed ball and a throwing error, allowing Thomas Walraven to advance and David Vinsky to score, putting the team up early from the start.

Lake Erie Crushers responded quickly in the top of the second inning, with Sean Cheely's clutch single up the middle driving in two runs, followed by Todd Isaacs' double that brought home Cheely, giving the Crushers a two-run lead.

Patrick Kivlehan blasted a game-tying two-run home run in the third inning - his third homer in as many games. The Boulders' momentum continued with an RBI sacrifice fly by Kwitzer to bring home Walraven.

The game featured five lead changes, with Lake Erie (15-16) scored five unanswered runs in the final two innings. Cheely and Isaacs each drove in three runs for the Crushers. Kivlehan paced the Boulders (17-13) with three hits, two runs, and two RBI.

The Boulders look to bounce back Saturday at Clover Stadium in their second game of the series with against Lake Erie. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Boulders will be hosting "Irish Heritage Day" throughout the day, with a plethora of activities planned for fans of all ages.
