Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) suffered just its second loss of the season on Saturday, falling 2-0 to the Rapids in Colorado.
The Rapids scored on two first half penalty kicks, from Gyasi Zardes and Diego Rubio, dropping LAFC's record to 7-2-1 (W-L-T) with 23 points as they remain in first place in the Western Conference.
The Black & Gold are back in action on Wednesday, May 18 when they host Austin FC at Banc of California Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast locally on KCOP 13 (ENG), Estrella TV Ch. 62 (SPA), ESPN 710 AM, and 980 AM La Mera La Mera.
NEWS & NOTES:
LAFC conceded two penalties to Colorado in the first 30 minutes on Saturday...that ended a streak of not giving up a penalty for an MLS record 46 straight matches dating back to November, 2020.
LAFC traveled only 17 players to Colorado due to injuries, and were further shorthanded when defender Ryan Hollingshead was forced to leave due to injury in the 40th minute.
Goalkeeper John McCarthy made his first MLS start for LAFC vs. Colorado. It was his first MLS start since Nov. 7, 2021 when he had a shutout for Inter Miami in a 1-0 win over New England.
LAFC was shutout for the first time in 2022 and it was the first time since Aug. 15, 2021 that the Black & Gold failed to score a goal. Last time it happened was in a 1-0 loss in Atlanta.
