The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that forward Carlos Vela was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 25 of the 2019 MLS season. This is Vela's fourth Player of the Week honor this year, previously winning the award for his performance in the second, fifth and 18th week of play.

Vela scored two goals in LAFC's 4-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday before adding another goal in the Black & Gold's 3-3 draw against the Galaxy on Sunday. LAFC sits atop the league standings with 62 points (19-3-5 record) and has already clinched a spot in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.

With 27 goals scored, Vela is tied for second in MLS history for most goals in a single season, leading the league in goals this year while also tying for second with 15 assists.

Vela helped give LAFC a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute against San Jose when he converted his seventh penalty kick. LAFC then took a 3-0 advantage in the 41st minute off Vela's tremendous display of skill, with the forward dribbling through multiple Quakes defenders to tap in his second of the night from inside the six-yard box.

Following a frenetic back-and-forth first half against the Galaxy, Vela scored the equalizing goal to bring the match to 3-3 in the 53rd minute. With a quick cut inside, Vela received a pass from Mark-Anthony Kaye, ditched a Galaxy defender and finished with a left-footed shot into the back of the net.

LAFC wraps up its three-game homestand next Sunday, September 1 when the Club hosts Minnesota United FC at Banc of California Stadium. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on YouTube TV, Univision KVMD, ESPN 710 AM, KFWB 980.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
