The San Jose Earthquakes bounced backed from a midweek defeat to LAFC with a convincing 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday night at Avaya Stadium, setting a new MLS record for total shots (43) and shots on goal (19) in a single match.

After conceding an early goal, Quakes midfielder Judson scored his first career MLS goal one minute later to level the score. Chris Wondolowski recorded his team-leading 11th goal of the season to give San Jose the lead just before halftime and Andy Rios scored an insurance goal in the second half to secure the win. Rios' goal was also the first of his MLS career and helped extend the Quakes' home unbeaten streak to 11 matches (9-0-2).

Midfielder Magnus Eriksson was credited with the assist on the goals by Wondolowski and Rios, earning him MLS Team of the Week honors for Week 25.

The Quakes have three home matches remaining in their regular season schedule. San Jose will host Orlando City SC on Saturday, August 31 at Avaya Stadium, before facing a three-match road trip.

The Earthquakes will celebrate Portuguese Heritage Night this Saturday. San Jose's clash with Orlando City SC is set for 7:15 p.m. PT, and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF. Tickets are available for purchase here.

TEAM SPECIFIC

Bounce Back

The Quakes snapped a four-match winless streak with the victory over Vancouver, extending their unbeaten streak at home to 11 matches (9-0-2). San Jose now holds a 12-10-5 record this season and sits in sixth place in the Western Conference, just two points out of second place.

Never Say Die

Saturday's victory marked San Jose's fourth come-from-behind victory since May 26.

New Accomplishment

The Earthquakes have completed a season sweep over Vancouver for the first time in club history. It also marked the first time San Jose defeated Vancouver in two straight meetings.

Record Performance

The San Jose Earthquakes set a single-game MLS records for shots in a half (25), shots in a game (43) and shots on goal in a game (19). Additionally, the Quakes registered a record number of shots (65) over a two-game span (22 at LAFC on 8/21/19; 43 vs. VAN on 8/24/19), snapping the previous record they set earlier this year (64).

Getting on the Scoresheet

Midfielder Judson and forward Andy Rios both tallied their first career MLS goals in Saturday's win over Vancouver.

Can't Stop Scoring

Forward Chris Wondolowski scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season and 155th of his career, extending his MLS record. It marked his 44th game-winning goal, also extending his MLS record. Wondolowski's goal also marked his 13th career goal scored against Whitecaps FC, the most of any player in MLS history. Wondolowski tallied an assist on Judson's goal, his second of the season and 41st of his MLS career.

Key Contributor

Midfielder Cristian Espinoza tallied an assist on Judson's goal, marking his team-leading 11th of the season.

Important Piece of the Puzzle

Midfielder Magnus Eriksson tallied assists on the goals by Wondolowski and Rios. It marked his first MLS game with two assists. He now has seven assists this season and 10 for his MLS career.

Everyone Chips In

Defender Florian Jungwirth tallied an assist on Wondolowski's goal, marking his second assist of the season and ninth of his MLS career.

VS. NEXT OPPONENT

The First Time

San Jose will be seeking their first-ever victory against Eastern Conference opponent Orlando City SC. The Quakes are 0-1-3 in all-time matchups against the Florida side.

Earthquakes Defender Marcos Lopez Called to Peru National Team

San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez has been called to the Peru National Team for a pair of international friendlies against Ecuador and Brazil.

RENO 1868 FC UPDATE

Reno 1868 FC did not compete over the weekend due to a bye. Prior to the break, 1868 FC fell 4-2 to Phoenix Rising FC on Aug. 16. Reno currently hold a record of 13-7-5 with nine matches remaining in their regular season schedule, and are three points behind second place Fresno FC and 12 points behind conference leaders Phoenix.

Reno look to bounce back when they host Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday, August 31 at Greater Nevada Field, where they hold a current home record of 7-2-3 in USL action. Saturday's match is set for 6:45 p.m. PT and will feature a scarf giveaway for the first 1,000 fans through the gate.
