Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - This Wednesday, August 28 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. PT, Sounders FC and RAVE Foundation are celebrating the opening of RAVE's newest public mini pitch, part of the foundation's ultimate goal of opening small fields for free play in communities of need throughout the Puget Sound region. Sounders FC players Cristian Roldan and Luis Silva will be in attendance.
The mini-pitch futsal court will be a permanent installment at Valley Ridge Playfield in SeaTac and marks the first of two fields RAVE expects to invest in this year. The second RAVE Field is being completed at Roxhill Elementary in White Center. Field locations are chosen in an effort to support underserved communities and provide locations for free play, as the fields may not be rented by groups or teams and must remain open for all at all times.
The mini pitch is a donation from RAVE Foundation with generous support from Delta Air Lines. Presenting sponsor of RAVE's ONE Ball program, Delta Air Lines works with RAVE to remove a barrier to participation in soccer by giving free, high quality soccer balls to kids in underserved communities. Delta Air Lines is a critical partner in RAVE's work, particularly in the City of SeaTac.
In addition to Roldan and Silva, Wednesday's event will also feature members of the Tacoma Defiance leading soccer skills training stations, SeaTac City Council Member Clyde Hill, Superintendent of Highline Public Schools Dr. Susan Enfield, RAVE Foundation Executive Director Ashley Fosberg and Delta Air Lines representatives. Members of Tacoma Defiance will be on hand Roldan and Silva will assist with the countdown to opening and will surprise students who are in attendance from local SeaTac Parks and Recreation camp programs with a ball giveaway at the end of the event.
