
LAFC Falls to Austin FC 4-1

LAFC dropped a second consecutive match, falling 4-1 to Austin FC on Friday night at Q2 Stadium. The Black & Gold, now 18-6-3 (57 points) maintain their position at the top of the MLS standings maintaining a six point lead over Philadelphia and Austin FC in the race for the Supporters Shield.
Austin opened the scoring in the 32' when Diego Fagúndez capitalized on free kick from just outside the 18-yard-box. The Verde came out strong in the second half with three goals in the first 15 minutes from Maximiliano Urruti (47' and 51') and Sebastián Driussi (59').
LAFC's leading goals scorer on the season, Cristian Arango put the Black & Gold on the score board in the 61st minute, putting away his 13th goal of the season. The 4-1 score line would hold through the end of the match.
LAFC will return to Texas on Wednesday, Aug. 31 as the Club closes out its three-game road stretch with a trip to PNC Stadium to take on the Houston Dynamo. That game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast locally on KCOP 13 and Estrella TV 62. It will also be available on the radio on the ESPN LA App, and 980 AM La Mera La Mera.
NEWS & NOTES:
With the loss, LAFC is now 18-6-3 on the season for a league-best 57 points. The club maintains its six-point lead over Philadelphia and Austin FC in the race for the Supporters Shield.
This is just the sixth loss overall for LAFC in 2022 and only the second time the Club has suffered two consecutive losses this season - last was May 14, 2-0 at Colorado and May 18 2-1 at home against Austin FC.
On Saturday, Aug. 20 LAFC became the first team in MLS to qualify for the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, needing just 25 games to clinch a postseason berth, tying their own MLS record set in 2019 for the fewest games played prior to clinching a playoff berth.
