Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - In a nationally televised match on Friday night at Q2 Stadium, Austin FC defeated league leaders Los Angeles FC 4-1 behind a dazzling attacking display in front of the Club's 30th-consecutive home sellout crowd. Designated Player Sebastián Driussi scored his league-leading 19th goal of 2022, and became only the seventh player in league history to contribute to at least one goal in 10 consecutive matches in the same season.
Diego Fagundez scored his sixth of the season in style in the 32nd-minute, from a free kick earned with a controversial foul by LAFC's Eddie Segura on Driussi. From 25 yards out, Fagundez placed his shot just under the crossbar.
Maxi Urruti doubled the lead for Austin at the start of the second half. Nick Lima picked out the Argentine striker with an accurate cross, and his glancing header nestled inside the far post.
It didn't take long for Urruti to make it 3-0. Four minutes after scoring his first, he cleverly rounded the LAFC goalkeeper after receiving a pass from Fagundez and finished from a tight angle.
Driussi then continued to add to his MVP-caliber campaign, scoring in the 59th-minute with a turn that floored his defender and a pinpoint low shot assisted by Fagundez.
Cristian Arango put the visitors in the board two minutes after Driussi's goal, but the Verde & Black defense held firm for the remainder of the match, earning a crucial victory that moves them within six points of LAFC for first place in the Supporters' Shield Standings.
