August 26, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - After a 3-3 draw against the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park last week, Seattle Sounders FC (10-13-3, 33 points) heads to Providence Park in Portland tonight to take on the Timbers in a nationally-televised Cascadia clash (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN, ESPN Deportes, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM). The fixture marks the 116th meeting between the two sides dating back 1975 when both teams played in the North American Soccer League, with Seattle holding a 56-44-15 advantage in the all-time series.
The matchup is pivotal for both teams, as the two squads are fighting for a playoff berth. Seattle sits in ninth place in the Western Conference with 33 points, two spots below the playoff line. Portland sits in 10th place, also with 33 points.
The Timbers currently lead the Cascadia Cup standings with seven points (2-0-1). Seattle sits in second place with three points (1-0-1), with Vancouver rounding out the standings with one point (0-1-1). The final fixture of 2022 Cascadia Cup play is September 17 when Sounders FC travels north to face Whitecaps FC.
Following Friday's matchup, Sounders FC faces a quick turnaround as it travels across the country to Florida to take on Orlando City SC on Wednesday, August 31 (4:30 p.m. PT / FOX 13, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
