Kyle Bellamy Joins Friday's TV Broadcast

August 25, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 25, 2011) - Former Winston-Salem Dash pitcher and current White Sox prospect Kyle Bellamy will serve as the color commentator for Friday's television broadcast of the Dash's game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The first game of Friday's doubleheader will be shown on WXII's THIS Carolina channel beginning at 6 p.m.

Bellamy, a reliever for the Dash in 2010, has missed all of the 2011 season while rehabbing an arm injury. He has been working to get back on the diamond in Winston-Salem at BB&T Ballpark as part of the White Sox minor league long-term rehab program.

A side-arming right-hander, Bellamy started his first full professional season last year with low-A Kannapolis before earning a quick promotion to the Carolina League. In 31 relief appearances with the Dash, Bellamy was 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA and five saves. He used a nasty two-seam fastball and a slurvy breaking ball to strike out 59 batters in just 47.1 innings and held opponents to a .216 batting average. The White Sox promoted Bellamy to AA Birmingham in mid-July 2010 and he finished the season with the Barons.

Bellamy joined the White Sox organization as a fifth round draft pick in 2009 out of the University of Miami. In his final season with the Hurricanes, the Hypoluxo, Florida native converted all 16 of his save opportunities, posted an ERA of 0.97, and struck out 63 batters in 46.1 innings. He was named a first team All-American by Baseball America, Rivals.com, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCWBA). He was named a semi-finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, honors given to the best college baseball player in the nation. He was nominated for the College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Year Award and the NCBWA "Stopper of the Year" award, which was won by 2011 Dash pitcher Addison Reed.

The Dash have one television broadcast remaining on Friday, September 2 versus the Salem Red Sox, Winston-Salem's final home game in the regular season.

THIS Carolina is available over-the-air on digital channel 12-2 and on Time Warner Cable channel 121 in the Piedmont Triad. Viewers with questions about how to access THIS Carolina should go to www.wxii.com or call their local cable provider. Alex Vispoli, "The Voice of the Dash," will call the play-by-play during the game.
