EVERETT, Wash. - Kelowna's defense locked it down in the third period, holding the Silvertips at bay for a 5-2 victory at Angel of the Winds Arena Sunday night.
Max Graham opened the scoring with a powerplay goal at 8:52 in the first period, with Gabriel Szturc tacking on a goal at 18:11 to give the Rockets a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
Ryan Hofer brought the Silvertips to within one with a powerplay just 55 seconds into play in the second period, his 15th tally of the year. Colton Dach answered for Kelowna with a slick backhander past Braden Holt at 9:42 in the second to put the Rockets up 3-1. Though the Tips would once more pull within one thanks to a Ben Hemmerling redirection on the powerplay, Szturc would restore the two-goal advantage just 1:09 later with a powerplay goal, his second of the contest.
Colton Dach tacked on an empty-netter for a 5-2 final. Kelowna netminder Jari Kykkanen finished with 44 saves on 46 shots.
The Everett Silvertips host the Prince George Cougars Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Friday night at 7 p.m. is the Silvertips' annual Teddy Bear Toss, as the Tips battle the Seattle Thunderbirds. Tickets are available.
