
Pats Cruise To 8-2 Win Over Oil Kings

Edmonton, Alta. - The Regina Pats attack was on full display on Sunday afternoon as they closed out their trip out west with a convincing 8-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. During their six-game quest, the Queen City Kids went an impressive 5-1-0-0.
Easton Armstrong scored his first career hat-trick (ninth, 10th, 11th) to help lead the visitors to victory. Borya Valis sniped twice in the contest while Connor Bedard scored his 27th and tied his career high with five points (1G-4A). Tanner Howe scored his 18th and added three assists, and Alexander Suzdalev (16th) also scored for the Pats. Valis and Suzdalev also added an assist. Drew Sim was solid when called upon and kicked out 23 of 25 shots directed his way.
Vojtech Port and Gavin Hodnett replied for the Oil Kings, while Ronin Geraghty and Kolby Hay combined to stop 29 of 37 Pat shots.
THE GOALS
First Period
REG 1-0 at 5:03 - Borya Valis (12), assisted by Connor Bedard and Tanner Howe // Bedard carried the puck down the left side into the Oil Kings zone and sent a centering pass to Valis who went undetected behind the defender and tapped it past Geraghty to give the Pats an early 1-0 lead.
REG 2-0 at 10:34 - Tanner Howe (18), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (PP) // Howe received a pass along the left side from Svozil, he took it deep in the Oil Kings zone below the goal line, threw the puck toward the net and it went off a defender in past Geraghty to give the Pats a 2-0 lead.
Second Period
REG 3-0 at 5:29 - Easton Armstrong (9), assisted by Alexander Suzdalev and Luke Bateman // Suzdalev carried the puck along the right boards, took the puck deep, and sent a pass to Armstrong who chipped it through Geraghty's five-hole to give the Pats a 3-0 lead.
REG 4-0 at 8:14 - Alexander Suzdalev (16), assisted by Connor Bedard // Bedard and Suzdalev broke in on a two-on-one. Bedard threaded a pass over to Suzdalev on his off-wing and he one-timed it past Geraghty to extend the Pats lead to 4-0.
REG 5-0 at 16:32 - Easton Armstrong (10), assisted by Connor Bedard and Stanislav Svozil (PP) // Bedard grabbed the puck in his own zone, carried it the distance, and wired a shot that Geraghty stopped but had trouble with the rebound and Armstrong fired hit past Geraghty for his second of the game to give the Pats a 5-0 lead.
REG 6-0 at 19:05 - Borya Valis (13), assisted by Tanner Howe and Connor Bedard // On a beautifully executed three-way passing play in which Valis finished off the perfect tic-tac-toe goal to give the Pats a 6-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
REG 7-0 at 31 seconds - Connor Bedard (27), assisted by Tanner Howe and Borya Valis // Bedard chipped the puck to Howe and they went in on a two-on-one and Bedard lasered home the puck to give the Pats a 7-0 lead.
EDM 7-1 at 6:47 - Vojtech Port (5), assisted by Luca Hauf and Gavin Hodnett // the Oil Kings won the board battle and Hauf found Port in front who buries it to get the Oil Kings on the board at 7-1.
REG 8-1 at 9:26 - Easton Armstrong (11), assisted by Sam Oremba // Oremba worked his way through the Oil Kings defence and got the puck toward the goal and the puck worked its way to Armstrong who fired a shot post and in to give the Pats an 8-1 lead.
EDM 8-2 at 9:52 - Gavin Hodnett (5), assisted by Rhett Melnyk and Ethan MacKenzie // The Pats got scrambling around in their zone and Hodnett collected his own rebound to pull the Oil Kings back to within six at 8-2.

NOTES
Connor Bedard extended his point-streak to 27 games (27G-37A-64PTS) with a goal and four assists. He has 42 points (17G-25A) over his last 15 games, 13 of which have been multi-point outings. He collected his 100th career WHL assist on the Pats' fourth goal.
Easton Armstrong reached double digits in goals for the first time and picked up his first career hat-trick in the WHL.
Tanner Howe (1G-3A) now has points in his last six games (8G-6A-14PTS) and 20 points (11G-9A) in his last 10 games.
Borya Valis scored his 12th and 13th goals of the season and added an assist, which eclipsed his career-high of 11 which he had in 57 games last season. He now has 19 points (10G-9A) in his last 11 games.
Alexander Suzdalev (1G-1A) has 25 points (10G-15A) in his last 14 games.
Stanislav Svozil picked up two assists to extend his point-streak to eight games (2G-16A). He is now up to 34 points (4G-30A) on the season which places him in second place in WHL defencemen scoring. His 30 assists move him into sole possession of second overall in the league.
UP NEXT
The Pats will have a few days off before returning to action on Friday, December 9th when they travel to Prince Albert where they will face off with the Raiders with a 7:00 pm puck drop. The Pats then return home for their first game at the Brandt Centre in almost a month in a collision with the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday, December 10th at 7:00 pm when the Pats host their annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
