Kunitz, Cassivi help Ducks edge Barons, 1-0

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Chris Kunitz scored the lone goal and Frederic Cassivi made 18 saves for his second straight shutout as the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks beat the Cleveland Barons, 1-0, Saturday at Cincinnati Gardens.

Kunitz scored his 21st goal of the season 9:34 into the third period for the Ducks, who won their fifth straight home and game matched a franchise record with their 41st win.

Cassivi stopped six shots in the first period, eight shots in the second period and four more in the third en route to his ninth shutout of the season.

The Ducks have shut out their opponents 14 times this season, tops in the AHL.

The win gave Cincinnati at least a share of third place in the West Division at 87 points. Houston entered its game Saturday in San Antonio with 85 points.

Nolan Schaefer stopped 30 shots in the loss for the Barons, who fell to 3-3-0-0 in their last six games.

The Ducks improved to 5-2-0-0 against the Barons this season and captured the Labatt Blue Cup, awarded to the winner of the eight-game season series. The Ducks and Barons finish the series today at 5 p.m. at Gund Arena.
